WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE JOB:
Have you been working in tech for a bit and would love an opportunity to serve humanity? Do you enjoy helping new agile teams learn to deliver iteratively? We need you at American Red Cross! We are seeking a Scrum Master.
The Scrum Master facilitates and champions the agile delivery process by coaching and mentoring teams, identifying and eliminating impediments, and promoting the use of standards and best practices. The Scrum Master ensures smooth operation of agile processes and activities and is responsible for facilitating key ceremonies in the lifecycle of the team.
The work location for this exciting opportunity is virtual. The selected candidate will work 100% remotely from home. Preference to work in NC or minimally central or eastern time zone hours.
WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD (Key Responsibilities):
  • Champion and facilitate adoption of agile standards, tools, and best practices in this transitional environment.
  • Train on and facilitate agile activities and ceremonies including daily stand-up meetings, sprint reviews, retrospectives, sprint and release planning, and product backlog refinement sessions.
  • Coordinate and facilitate coordination with other SMs, teams, etc. for shared ceremonies (e.g., Scrum of Scrums, PI Planning).
  • Facilitate meetings that are productive and within a timebox.
  • Utilize feedback and metrics (e.g., quality, delivery, cadence, etc.) to facilitate identifying areas of opportunity and work with team to continuously improve.
  • Coach the team to improve collaboration and self-management, promoting healthy interactions both within the team and with external stakeholders.
  • Support the team in using agile planning and development tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, Rally).
  • Contribute to the advancement and improvement of agile practices within the organization (i.e. creating/ joining COPs and learning opportunities)
PAY INFORMATION: The annual salary range for this position is $110,000- $130,000. We do not offer an annual bonus for this role. Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. **We will review specific salary information at the time of phone screening based upon your location & experience.**
Scope: Individual contributor that works under limited supervision. Apply subject matter knowledge. Capacity to understand specific needs or requirements to apply skills/knowledge.
Qualified candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. The American Red Cross does not sponsor employment visas.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (required/minimum qualifications):
Skills and Competencies
  • Experience in transitioning environment: bridging waterfall and agile while bringing teams into new ways of working
  • Producing and conducting training for new teams and those new to roles (ex: Backlog workshop, story-pointing, team ceremonies)
  • Knowledge and experience with agile practices, frameworks, and techniques- SAFe, Scrum and Kanban required
  • Coaching skills for new key roles and ability to motivate teams.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with agile planning and development tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, Rally).
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience. Agile certification required (e.g. SPC, SSM).
  • Experience: Minimum 7 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required. 3+ years of scrum master experience with new-to-agile teams. Background in data is preferred.
  • Skills & Abilities: Ability to work on a team. Ability to communicate highly technical information effectively to various audiences.
