This is a new position created to support the expansion of MSFC into additional service areas in Maryland and into the District of Columbia .

The position reports to the Executive Director, DC Operations with a dotted line to the MSFC Medical Director. The Associate Medical Director performs daily review of current inpatients, precertification requests, pharmacy requests, review of emergency department visits, review of appeals, and consultations with nurse case managers and disease managers; works in close association with the Medical Director to develop Medical and Pharmacy policy for MSFC; performs utilization review for members of MedStar Family Choice according to Utilization Management (UM) criteria and based on medical necessity; ! ensures UM decision making is based only on appropriateness of! care and service and existence of coverage.
MSFC has offices in Maryland and in the District of Columbia. This position will require travel between the offices.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Medical Degree from an approved school of Medicine or Osteopathy. Advanced Degree in Business or Public Health preferred.
EXPERIENCE: 5 years' experience in clinical practice, including previous experience in a managed care environment. Experience with NCQA certification, HEDIS reporting and working with Departments of Health or other government agencies, government sponsored programs and recipients preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Active Medical License in Maryland and in the District of Columbia without restriction with no current, prior or pending Medicare or Medicaid Sanctions. Active Board Certification in a medical specialty as recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialty (ABMS).
S! KILLS: Demonstrated skills in clinical judgment. Working knowledge of managed care utilization management approaches and principles. Demonstrated ability to communicate and educate providers regarding principles of utilization management and quality assurance. Strong interpersonal skills. Analytical skills necessary to assess utilization data and formulate use reports. Basic computer skills preferred.
