NOTE: The beginning duty location for this position will be at the Atlanta VAMC, Decatur, GA. When the new Carrollton facility opens (estimated Summer 2012), the permanent duty location will be Carrollton, GA.
The Atlanta VA Medical Center (VAMC) is seeking a Physician-Manager for the Carrollton Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). This CBOC will oversee the primary care outpatient medical services of about 3,000 patients; offer a diverse array of specialty care services to include, radiology, pharmacy services, social services, mental health services, audiology, dental podiatry, lab, eye care and prosthetic support. Additionally, this site will be the home of a 42-bed Community Living Center (CLC).
The Atlanta VAMC has 405 authorized inpatient beds (273 hospital, 120 Community Living Center and 12 PRRTP) and is a tertiary care facility classified as a Complexity Level 1A facility. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services complete with state-of-the-art technology, education and research. Comprehensive health care is provided through emergency medicine, primary care, tertiary care, and long-term care in the areas of medicine, surgery, mental health, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics, and extended care. The Atlanta VAMC is part of the VA Southeast Network (VISN 7), which includes facilities in Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina. The Atlanta VAMC Community Living Center serves metro Atlanta and includes extended care rehabilitation, psycho-geriatric care, and general long term care. The facility also serves as a prosthetics treatment center, fabricating and supplying mechanical devices such as artificial limbs for patients within the states of Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama.

DUTIES:
The responsibilities of the Physician Manager will oversee all clinical operations for the Carrollton CBOC which includes primary care and specialty care outpatient operations, as well as a 42 bed Community Living Center (CLC). We are recruiting an energetic, innovative internist or Family Practice physician who will supervise daily clinical activities for both the outpatient and CLC areas. The incumbent will serve as leader, clinical operations manager and mentor for other team members assuring quality medical care and service are provided to veterans in a patient-centered approach. The incumbent will also oversee a small patient panel in the Primary Care Clinic.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications:
Citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be considered when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens)
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia
Must have a degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
(1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted;
(2) Schools of Osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association;
(3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure
Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible
FOREIGN EDUCATION: To receive credit for education completed outside the United States, you must show proof that the education has been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and such education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.
